Liberated Rabbits (Except One) Returned to Portland, OR Butcher Jan 17 In a strange development, a rabbit rescue is forced to return 17 rabbits liberated from a Portland butchery school. Overnight on January 8th, news broke on the " Portland Meat Collective" website that somewhere between 18 and 23 rabbits had disappeared from the backyard of one of their "instructors" the day before they were to be killed as part of a "how to" self-butchery class. Nearly a week passed without any further news or claim of responsibility. Then, in a tragic development Friday, January 13th, news came that the rabbits had been located and returned to the school to be killed. The only good news to come from this development is that one of the rabbits has not been returned to the school. The person the rabbit was re-homed to is, so far, refusing to return the rabbit. In either a public-relations move, or just something akin to a serial killer taunting and humiliating a kidnapped victim before death, the Portland Meat Collective has named the rabbit "Roger". Erickson died of esophageal cancer this week, shortly after this action. Since at least the 1950s, Palmer Erickson and his sons have imprisoned and killed thousands of mink and fox every year on their farm in Jewel, Iowa. After 60+ years, Erickson passed away on January 1st.

Fur Breeders Agriculture Co-op in Utah Burns (Again) Dec 19. Fire investigators have dismissed arson and suspect an accidental cause for a two-alarm blaze that heavily damaged the Fur Breeders Agricultural Cooperative complex in Sandy on Monday. The same business, though a different building, had been targeted in a 1997 pipe bombing blamed on the Animal Liberation Front. "We have pretty much ruled this as accidental at this time," Sandy Fire Deputy Chief Bruce Cline said Tuesday. Six members of the Animal Liberation Front were charged for igniting six pipe bombs at the Fur Breeders Co-op, but at a different building, 8720 S. 700 West. At least two were sentenced to federal prison. Read more here.

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver on Friday affirmed the sentence handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Ted Stewart in 2010 to Halliday, who pleaded guilty to contempt of court for refusing to testify about attacking the mink farms. Railroad Sabotage in Solidarity with Animal Liberation Prisoner Walter Bond Dec 01. Posted by Anarchist News On the night of November 28th, 2011, we sabotaged a rail line in Southern Oregon as part of a coordinated effort to disrupt the flow of commerce on the West Coast. We got tired of watching trains pass through our towns loaded with lumber, ore, cheap commodities, and other resources pillaged from the earth without consequence. We didn't do this out of a desire to create a more green, sustainable or humane civilization–we want nothing less than to see the total failure of this sick and rotten society. We did this in solidarity with currently imprisoned members of the Long-Live Luciano Tortuga Cell/Indonesian FAI, to whom we send our most passionate revolutionary greetings. We would also like to send our love to ALF prisoner of war, Walter Bond. Towards an end to this nightmare world. Read entire communique here.

Animal Rights Militia Liberates Animals from Vermont Farm for Second Year in a Row Nov 22. In a communique received today by the North American Animal Liberation Press Office, activists with the Animal Rights Militia claim to have liberated animals from a Vermont farm for the second year in a row. Every year, nearly 300 million turkeys are killed in the U.S., spending their entire lives crammed in large sheds with little room to move. Artificially inseminated and selectively bred to gain enormous amounts of weight, they suffer heart attacks, broken limbs, lameness, and death from their genetically-induced accelerated growth rate. Conditions are so severe that about 9% of turkeys raised for food (or over 26 million) don't even survive long enough to make it to the slaughterhouse. Press release, communique and photo here!

Vandals strike again in Tiburon, freeing the last 20,000 juvenile salmon into the bay Oct 10. Four days after vandals set loose 40,000 juvenile Chinook salmon, breaking the hearts of the high school students who raised them, the executive director of the Tiburon Salmon Institute was shocked Saturday morning when he discovered that net lines again had been cut overnight, releasing the remaining 20,000 fish into San Francisco Bay. "It's been a hell of a week and now this has happened," said a dispirited Brooke Halsey, head of the institute. "There are nuts out there, and they did it the same way. They clipped the zip ties that hold the nets in place. We were trying to solicit funds for a security camera. But we couldn't get a security camera put up quick enough, and they came back." read more

Activist Secretly Videotapes FBI Visit Investigating Mink Liberation Oct 7. Here's the video from Green is the New Red. "It's not often that we get to see the FBI in action as agents harass activists. This video is of two FBI agents visiting the owner of Best Place Ever, a video store, and questioning him about last night's release of mink from a fur farm in Jewel, Iowa. The agents suspect the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) was behind the raid, and question the man about any communication he may have with former ALF prisoner Peter Young. The FBI is investigating the mink release as “domestic terrorism."

1500 Mink Released at Farm in Rural Jewell, Iowa Oct 7. KQWC News Report: Officials in northcentral Iowa are investigating vandalism at a mink farm. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department is investigating a report of an incident early this morning in which several mink cages at a rural Jewell residence were opened. Approximately 1,200 to 1,500 mink were released from those cages. Unknown persons opened pens in several buildings and let the mink loose. The sheriff's office is being assisted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the F.B.I. Hamilton County sheriff Dennis Hagenson said the release of these animals is considered an act of domestic terrorism. 40,000 Salmon Released Into San Francisco Bay Oct 4. In what may be the largest liberation of animals in U.S. history, nets were cut at a holding pen in the San Francisco bay this week, releasing 40,000 fish into the wild. There has not yet been a claim of responsibility by the Animal Liberation Front or other group. An employee at the institute where the salmon were held says he speculates this may be the act of an animal rights group. The pens were part of a program run by the Tiburon Salmon Institute, in partnership with a pro-fishing student group at nearby Casa Grande High School. Read more.

300 Mink Liberated in Oregon Sep 25. Two months before they were slated to be killed by fur farmers, 300 mink were liberated from an Oregon fur farm early Sunday morning. It was the first of two major actions against the northwest fur industry in two nights. 24 hours later, the Rocky Mountain Fur Co. would be set on fire in neighboring Idaho. Early Sunday, fur farm owner Carl Salo contacted police and reported mink were running loose on his property . Police estimate the number at 300. While overall mink farm liberations have declined since the late-1990s, they have surged in Oregon. This was the fourth mink liberation in Astoria alone in the past three years. In July 2010, the Animal Liberation Front took credit for setting fire to to several vehicles and a barn at the Ylipelto mink farm, also in Astoria. So far, no group has taken responsibility.

West Hollywood, CA Bans All Sale of Fur Sep 26. This proudly liberal city has been out front on gay rights, protection of animals and limits on handguns, and even declared an upcoming "Go-Go Dancer Appreciation Day." But its latest move has the fur flying in a catfight between animal-rights activists and fashionistas. A unanimous City Council vote last week to ban the sale of fur apparel has outraged the fashion industry, one of the primary businesses this tiny city, wedged between Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, has worked hard to attract.

Music and the Animal Liberation Movement, by Josh Eldridge. I'm from a small town. The place I grew up had less than 1,000 people living in it and it was very uncommon to have a meal – any meal – that didn't have meat in it. There was no vegetarians or vegans but there was music and that's what I clung to. Music opened me up to a whole new world – one that none of my friends from school ever found. Music was an escape from being stuck in a soulless, non-descript town and it taught me about things that I would have never learned anywhere else. The rest of the essay is here.

The Importance of Straightedge - Vegan Hardline by Walter Bond. I want to live in a world where the Earth and Animals get to live and flourish. I want to live in a world without racism. I want to live in a world where our mothers and sisters are not preyed upon in the streets or in their homes. I want to live in a world that has respect for all innocent life, and I want to live in a world without the self-destruction and diminished capacity of inebriation.
To that end I am Straightedge. The rest of the essay is here.

Animal Liberation Prisoner Walter Bond's Mother Pens Beautiful Essay Walter Bond was born a warrior; he did not choose it because he found a worthy or righteous cause. A warrior is born with a fire inside and a need to right wrongs. He is born with a compassion and caring rooted so deeply that it is difficult to walk away from any sort of cruelty, whether it involves the people, the Animal Nations, the oceans and seas or the whole of Mother Earth and Father Sky. Plant Seeds or Plant Bombs? by NAALPO Advisor Steve Best, PhD And so, I suggest, instead of planting seeds, we need to plant bombs. We have to ignite and trigger explosive forces of anger, discontent, awareness, resistance and transformation, or we are going down the same road of extinction every human (Homo) ancestor went down, as we take most of life with us, and degrade every ecosystem before we go. Johnnie Walker Wisdom, Only Less Inebriating What is most galling about those vociferously opposed to animal liberation and animal rights, particularly those who are in favor of continued use of non-human animals in medical research and vivisection, is their seeming inability to marshal any substantive facts in defense of their position. Leaving aside the fact that their position is basically indefensible, both philosophically and in reality, so to say, they are left with caterwauling appeals to emotion. New Essay by NAALPO Advisor Steve Best, PhD.: Animal liberation requires that people transcend the complacent boundaries of humanism - however "radical" and "progressive" - to effect a qualitative leap in ethical consideration, one that moves the moral bar from reason and language to sentience and subjectivity . Humans must not only change their views toward one another, a massive undertaking in itself, they must  also recognize that the species boundaries separating human from nonhuman animals are as arbitrary as those of race and sex. Animal liberation is possible only as total liberation that is advanced as part and parcel of a radical social movement and realizes moral learning processes in the institutional networks of a truly democratic post-capitalist society. Exclusive NAALPO Interview with A.L.F. P.O.W. Walter Bond Preparing for an action, on the technical end of things, was very easy. We tend to think of covert or illegal activity in the Animal Liberation movement as complicated. I personally found that to not be the case. Most of the supplies I used in the commission of the arson at the Sheepskin Factory I found in alleys and trash cans. All too often during A.L.F/E.L.F actions, incendiary devices haven't gone off. I learned from that and did not create a device to do the work for me. This also, I feel, further minimized any possible harm to life. Read the rest of essay here.

Animal Liberation Prisoner Walter Bond Denounces the "Green Scare"
Please do not consider me a "Green Scare" defendant and please do not become scared to be "Green." Better yet, please do not be scared to be militant, or outspoken, or an activist for the legal aboveground or clandestine underground.  Still better, don't give in to state-sanctioned fear. Camille Marino: Ethical Veganism Does Not Help Animals (Published on the blog Let Them Eat Meat) Camille Marino is the founder and Senior Editor of Negotiation is Over and is on the Advisors and Speakers Panel of the North American Animal Liberation Press Office. NIO strives to be an instrument of defiance, disruption, disobedience, subversion, creative and aggressive grassroots action, and a catalyst for revolutionary change. NIO's belief is that "Total liberation -- human animals, nonhuman animals, and the earth -- will not happen by politely asking abusers to be decent." Camille and many of her above-ground activist allies recently made a decisive break from vegans who are content to alleviate their own guilt through personal veganism and baking vegan goodies. NIO has also gained notoriety by advocating violence against those who are so entrenched, though Camille has remained non-violent in her approach. Read the interview here.

Animal Liberation Press Office Interview with RISE and Press Officer Nicoal Sheen Direct action is most effective for animals – period. Direct action includes but is not limited to: liberation of animals from confinement and places of exploitation, economic sabotage which breaks down industries monetarily (the very material item that drives the atrocities happening to animals) and intimidation tactics – such as bomb hoaxes – to threaten animal exploiters and ultimately, stop them from continuing the torture and murder of sentient beings. Read the RISE Interview here.
